These are example packing lists of items we are taking on foreign trips. You can add or delete items depending on the amount of weight you are willing to carry.
Clothes 1: Tropical\Hot Climates
- 2-3 T-shirts – nylon\polyester (not cotton) quick drying
- 2-3 Button shirts (at least one long sleeve) – nylon\polyester, quick drying. At least one which can pass for a casual dress shirt.
- 1 pair shorts or skirt. Nylon\Poly, quick drying
- 2 pair long pants. One light, nylon\poly quick drying. The other light and quick
- drying but which can pass for casual dress pants.
- 1 swimsuit (can double as shorts)
- 1 very light rain jacket
- 4 socks – moisture wicking, quick drying
- 4 underwear – moisture wicking, quick drying, like Ex Officio or similar
- 1 flip-flops or light durable sandals
- 1 walking shoes
- 1 Sun hat – crushable
Clothes 1: Colder Climates
- 2-3 T-shirts (can double as a layer) – heavier nylon\poly quick drying
- 2 Button shirts (at least one long sleeve) – heavier nylon\polyester, quick drying.
- At least one which can pass for a casual dress shirt.
- 1 light polar fleece jacket.
- 1 light rain jacket\shell
- 1 pair shorts or skirt – only if weather will be nice enough to wear them.
- 2 pair long pants. One nylon\poly quick drying. The other quick drying but which
- can pass for casual dress pants.]
- 1 swimsuit (if appropriate for the destination)
- 4 socks – moisture wicking, quick drying
- 4 underwear – moisture wicking, quick drying, like Ex Officio or ??
- 1 flip-flops or light durable sandals or tennis shoes (if appropriate for the
- destination)
- 1 walking shoes
Additional Items:
- Carry-on size travel backpack or rolling suitcase.
- Smaller daypack or messenger bag (as airline personal item). This will hold your more valuable items like computer, camera, iphone that you need to watch and keep next to you all the time.
- Pacsafe 15L travel safe with good quality keyed padlock
- Money belt and\or neck pouch, or other preferred secure storage for importants documents (passport, ID, credit cards, ATM cards, etc.)
- Ebook reader or small tablet and charger
- Journal, notepad, pens
- Quick drying travel towel
- Camera, lenses, batteries, memory cards, and charger, microfiber cloth
- Laptop or tablet computer and AC adapater\charger
- Toilet\Laundry\Medical Kit (all purpose soap, toothpaste or powder, toothbrush, floss, deodorant, comb or brush, small washcloth, hand sanitizer, bug repellent, sunscreen, pain killers (aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.), nail clippers, small nylon clothesline, antidiarrheal pills, antihistamines, bandaids, contact lens solution, vitamins, prescription medications, ear plugs, Q-tips)
- Glasses and Sunglasses in cases.
- iPhone, earbuds, charger.
- Language dictionary (for when tablet lookup is too slow)
- CPAP machine with AC adapter.
- International AC plug converter
- Portable travel power strip (4 outlets)
- Hydroflask insulated water bottle
- Portable backup hard drive
- Battery bank (optional)
- External microphone for camera (if you shoot video)
